Arsenal have agreed personal terms with Manchester City forward Gabriel Jesus.

The Brazilian will join the Gunners on a five-year deal ahead of a proposed £45 million move, as reported by The Athletic.

There was interest in the 25-year-old from Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea, but Arsenal will sign the striker as they look to boost their attacking options ahead of the new Premier League season.

Haaland in, Jesus out

Jesus’ contract at City expired in 2023. Last season, he scored 13 times and managed 12 assists in all competitions for Premier League champions City.

The arrival of Erling Haaland inevitably meant less game time for Jesus, who wants to play regular football before the World Cup with Brazil this winter.

He scored 58 goals in 159 Premier League matches for the Manchester club.

Arsenal add to squad

He will become Arsenal’s fourth summer signing after the arrivals of Fabio Vieira, Marquinhos and goalkeeper Matt Turner.

The signing of Jesus will be a major boost to Arsenal’s attacking options having lost strikers Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang this year.

Manager Mikel Arteta, who worked with Jesus when he was assistant to Pep Guardiola at Manchester City between 2016 and 2019, was a key part in getting the deal done.

Arsenal begin their 2022-23 Premier League season when they travel to take on Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on 5 August.
