So, was this one point rescued or two thrown away for the Gunners? 

Only the table at the end of the season will tell the tale as both sets of players left the pitch disappointed. Saints annoyed to have let a two goal slip let on and Arsenal frustrated that they failed to find a late, late winner that would have kept the North London side in pole position in the Premier League.

Southampton took a 0-2 lead through Alcaraz and Walcott before Martinelli pulled one back for the Gunners.

Arsenal toiled in the second half and lacked a creative cutting edge as Southampton silenced the Emirates as Caleta-Car nodded home to make it 1-3.

Arsenal struggled to break down the side from the south coast but did manage to salvage a point as the excellent Odegaard drilled home with his trusty left boot in the 87th minute with Saka drawing the Gunners level two minutes later.

Arteta's men threw the kitchen sink at Southampton but there was to be no last minute miracle as spoils were shared.

Next up for the Gunners, a midweek trip to face Manchester City with the game now shaping up as a title decider.

The whistle sounds and it ends 3-3.

A surprise scoreline at the Emirates as bottom side Southampton lead Arsenal 1-2.

An error from Ramsdale enabled Alcaraz to fire home within a minute of the start with Theo Walcott scoring against his former side to make it 0-2 to stun the fans at the Emirates.

Arsenal rallied and Martinelli (who along with Saka have been excellent for the Gunners) fired one back on the 20 minute mark.

The whistle sounds and the Saints lead at the interval.

A win tonight for Arteta's men would mathematically guarantee Champions League football next season at the Emirates.

A stunned Emirates stadium watches on in disbelief as the visitors take a 0-2 lead to the side from the south coast.

Martinelli has looked dangerous tonight with the Brazilian making a series of marauding runs on his left hand side.

Saints too hit with injury

Key striker Che Adams who picked up a calf injury on international duty last month is out and Saints head coach Selles believes will be out until the end of April. Mohammed Salisu is also out of action tonight as he struggles with a pelvic problem.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles cannot play against his parent club, and Tino Livramento is unavailable despite closing in on a return after playing for the B team having missed nearly a year with a cruciate tear, while Juan Larios is a long-term casualty.

Arteta's injury concerns

Arsenal are missing several key players as we move into the final stretch of the season. William Saliba continues to be unavailable due to his ongoing back problems, while Ukraine international Zinchenko is also struggling with a groin problem that saw him miss the recent 2-2 draw against West Ham United.

Both Tomiyasu and Elneny remain out longer-term with knee issues.

Despite being favourites to drop down to the Championship, fans of the club still believe that the team can pull off an amazing escape and avoid the drop as fans show up in North London tonight hoping to deliver a shock result.
