Arsenal vs Manchester City: times, how to watch on TV, stream online | Community Shield

The Premier League’s annual curtain-raiser will see Mikel Arteta’s new-look Gunners face the treble-winners at Wembley Stadium.

Update:
Arsenal vs Manchester City: how to watch

Arsenal and Manchester City go head to head on Sunday to kick-start the 2023/24 season of English football.

The two sides meet at Wembley Stadium in the Community Shield, a one-off clash between the winners of the Premier League and the FA Cup. However after City won both competitions last season, they will face Premier League runners up Arsenal in the showpiece event.

Both sides have undergone major change this summer. Arsenal broke their club transfer record to sign Declan Rice for a fee of up to £105 million and also brought in Kai Havertz and Jurrien Timber to bolster the squad.

For City, this summer has been about evolution after two keys players left the club. Captain Ilkay Gundogun and Riyadh Mahrez both exited this summer, but Pep Guardiola moved to bring in Mateo Kovacic from Chelsea. City are also close to a deal to bring in Josko Gvardiol from RB Leipzig.

Who’s the ref for Arsenal vs Manchester City?

The 2023 Community Shield will be officiated by English referee Stuart Atwell. Alongside him will be Tim Wood and Dan Robathan as his assistants, with fourth official John Brooks on the touchline.

When Atwell was announced as the Community Shield referee, he said that he was delighted to have been given the opportunity to officiate the high profile fixture.

“It’s obviously a key point in the calendar for everybody involved in the game and with the two teams that are involved in it, they were both at the forefront of playing some fantastic football last season,” Attwell said last month.

Arsenal vs Manchester City prediction

Last season Arsenal looked to be surging to a first Premier League title in nearly two decades, until the unstoppable force of Manchester City powered past them on the final stretch. Arsenal have strengthened this summer and now look better-suited to the rigours of a season fighting on mulitple fronts.

City have experienced two significant losses this summer but with the quality at Guardiola’s disposal we expect them to have enough to beat Mikel Arteta’s new-look Arsenal side, although only narrowly.

Prediction: Arsenal 1-2 Manchester City
