Bad news for Argentina ahead of key World Cup qualifiers
The definitive Albiceleste squad for the games against Uruguay and Brazil has been released with one key absentee.

Bade news emerged for Argentina fans on Monday after it was confirmed that the world champions will be without captain Leo Messi for the key World Cup 2026 double-header against Uruguay in Montevideo and Brazil in Buenos Aires.

The Rosario born striker scored for Inter Miami in the comeback against Atlanta United during Sunday’s MLS game and felt a degree of discomfort in the adductor of his left leg and after some early examination, it was decided to rule him from the Argentina squad.

Paulo Dybala is another key absentee after the player was injured over the weekend playing with his club side AS Roma.
Lionel Scaloni’s side will train on Monday at their Ezeiza complex on the edge of Buenos Aires and begin preparation ahead of Friday’s game against Uruguay in Montevideo. The second game of the window sees Brazil visit the Argentina capital next Tuesday with the match set to be played at River Plate’s Estadio El Monumental.
