Barça to sport Coldplay logo for El Clásico

Reports from the Catalan capital point to the Chris Martin fronted band being the next high profile artist to feature on the iconic ‘azulgrana’ jersey.

After celebrated names from the world of music such as: Drake, Rosalía, The Rolling Stones and Karol G have adorned the FC Barcelona jersey during recent El Clásico games against arch rivals Real Madrid, everything points to British band Coldplay being the next artist to feature on the ‘azulgrana’ shirt.

According to reports in Catalan media, FC Barcelona and the British band have reached an agreement as part of the overall Spotify sponsorship whereby for the league games against Real Madrid, Hansi Flick’s side see the streaming service logo swapped for a high profile recording artist with Coldplay’s new album set to be released on 4 October with the game set to take place at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium on 27 October.

This initiative in recent years has been both a commercial and marketing success for the club, the streaming service and the artist in question with jerseys bearing the logos of the previously featured artists now exchanging hand for substantial sums of money on the second hand market with the shirts becoming collectors items due to the limited runs.

The relationship between Coldplay and Barcelona fans is already strong with the rousing ‘Viva la vida’ constantly used in the Camp Nou dressing when the side were coached by Pep Guardiola.

Coldplay’s new tenth studio album Moon Music gets a global release on 4 October with the ten track record the British outfit’s first release since 2021′s Music of the Spheres with the band reportedly set to spend more than 45 million dollars on a worldwide marketing campaign.
