Barcelona 2-0 Cádiz: summary, score, goals, highlights, LaLiga 23/24
Barcelona - Cádiz live online: LaLiga 23/24
So, after a frustrating opening away trip to Getafe last week, Barcelona get the new season back on track with a home win at their new adopted Montjuic home.
Cadiz were a tough nut to crack and the Andalusian side kept the Catalans at bay but a moment of brilliance from Gundogan who found Pedri after the 80 minute mark opened the scoring for Barcelona.
A late goal from Ferran Torres added gloss on the scoreline as the defending champions get their first win of the campaign.
There were spells though when the Catalan's toiled and Robert Lewandowski is a long way off the form we saw when he made his LaLiga debut last season.
The whistle sounds at Camp Nou and Barcelona secure their first points of the season.
Barcelona at Villarreal next weekend and Cadiz welcome Almeria to the Nuevo Mirandilla.
The clock ticks down and Cadiz did well for 80 minutes as they kept the Catalan giants at bay.
Three points now as good in the bag for the home side.
Barcelona yet to ship a goal all season.
Gooooooooool.
Ferran Torres make it two as Lewandowski provides the assist
Hernandez carded as he blocks Abde.
The Catalan side press now with Cadiz looking more vulnerable as the press looking forward hoping to find an equaliser.
7 minutes of time will be added.
Final minute of normal time.
I imagine we'll have 6-7 minutes of added time as Cadiz almost draw level as Machis blazes over.
The ball is in the net as Lewandowski taps to Ansu but the Polish striker is indeed in an offside position.
Ansu Fati runs with purpose and fires straight at Ledesma.
Jose Mari, Negredo and Osmajic on for Cadiz as Sergio now shuffles things and goes for broke as Cadiz look to salvage a point.
Yamal off and Ferran on.
Cadiz were sitting that bit deeper and were certainly happy with the 0-0.
Time now against the Andalusian side.
Golllllll.
Pedri finds the net as Gundogan slides the ball into the path of the midfielder
Great strike from Abde and once again, Ledesma is the hero for Cadiz as the Argentine saves well.
Garcia too on for Barcelona as he replaces Christensen
Hernandez off and Negredo on for Cadiz
Sergi Roberto on for FCB with Romeu off
Quarter of an hour to go and despite all their efforts, no way through for the league champions.
I'd say at this point Xavi would settle for one of the 1-0 score lines that helped his men last season.
Gundogan has yet to shine with his new club and it's difficult to pinpoint what's going wrong at the Catalan side.
Possession:
FCB 64-36 CCF (%)
Barcelona still yet to score all season.
One or two half chances today but they do look a little blunt in attack.
Fati and Abde on for FCB, Gavi and Balde make way
San Emeterio off for Cadiz, Machis on
Alejo off and Sobrino on for Cadiz
Abde and Fati set to make an entrance.
Another dangerous free for Barcelona.
Gundogan looks for Lewandowski and was there a push from Alcaraz?
No VAR check and the game continues.
What a run from Chris Ramos as he fires a right footed effort just wide.
Approaching the hour mark and still no way through for either side.
Robert Lewandowski is far from the player who joined LaLiga in the summer of 2022.
Barcelona win dangerous free.
Lewandowski fires into the wall.
Cadiz lining up a series of changes.
Barcelona hit the woodwork as Gavi heads off the bar from a corner.
Great chance for Cadiz as they break and Ramos and Roger find Alex who blazes wide.
Barcelona need to keep an eye on these Cadiz counters.
Cadiz really doing an admirable job at keeping Barcelona at bay getting numbers behind the ball with Roger cutting a sole figure for the Andalusian side,
We're back underway in Barcelona.
A scrappy end to the first 45.
Cadiz will be delighted with their efforts.
Gavi carded for complaining.
The whistle sounds for half time
Gundogan to take? Lewandowski also over the ball.
The German international strikes but its not a great effort as the ball fails to dip.
Gundogan fouled and Fali is the guilty party and gifts the Catalan side with a dangerous free.
San Emeterio carded as he pulls Pedri back to interrupt the Barcelona move.
Five minutes of time will be added.
Into the final minute of the half and Barcelona still looking for their first goal of the 2023-24 season.
What have we seen from Lamine so far? Some nice play and a series of fine deliveries with a good looking left foot.
Just five minutes of the half remain and still no way through for the home side who look extremely well organised.
Now, the best chance for Cadiz as Roger breaks free and sees Ter Stegen save well with the German making himself 'big' to deny the former Levante man.
Kounde is through after a fine pass from Pedri and once again Ledesma is the hero for Cadiz as he saves well from the French player.
We've passed the half hour mark and it remains goalless
Lamine goes close as a rasping shot goes inches wide.
Ter Stegen now carded too as he complains to the ref.
De Jong carded as he fouls Alcaraz with a late tackle.
Lewandowski now with a header as the Pole breaks the offside but his effort is poor and straight at the Argentine keeper.
Both Pedri and Lewandowski now missing really good chances.
No real crystal clear chances so far as we pass the 20 minute mark.
The game taking the predicted pattern.... the home side dominate possession and Cadiz looking to strike on the counter.
Gavi goes down and will need medical attention.
Yamine not getting too much of the ball but does look good when he is in possession ...very Dembele-esque style obvious from the teenager.
Lamine finds Pedri and with acres of space he heads tamely and Ledesma has no problems in stopping the effort.
Card for Alejo as he clips Balde.
Cadiz looking positive as Ramos heads wide.
Certainly no stage fright from Sergio's men as they create danger.
Romeu has a shot from the edge of the box. The effort gets a deflection and Barcelona win their first corner of the game but Ledesma is level and saves.
Barcelona now getting a rhythm together as they thread a series of short passes together.
This is the pattern we can expect for the bulk of this game.
Yamine goes to ground and appeals for a spot kick but the ref is having nothing.
Lamine on the ball and looking good with his left foot.
Oscar Hernandez (Xavi's brother) is on the bench tonight with the manager suspended after getting his red card in Getafe last Sunday.
All the early pressure is being generated by the visitors as Cadiz work the ball well and earn the first corner of the evening.
Off we go at Montjuic and the home side get the game underway.
Actually, there really are some vast empty seats, especially those close to pitch side.
Not a great look for the league champions but Montjuic is that little bit less accessible than Camp Nou.
The teams take to the pitch, Cadiz swap their traditional blue shorts for an all yellow look.
'Tots al Camp'... as the Barcelona Blaugrana al Vent anthem belts out.
Alejandro Muñiz Ruiz is tonight's match official for the clash at Montjuic.
The downside about the Olympic Stadium is the distance in the area behind both goals with the stands. A real running track feel despite the stadium currently not boasting a track.
Both teams poised to make an entrance.
There is a decent crowd at the LLuis Compays stadium but clear gaps visible too.
Plenty of yellow shirts dotted around the crowd with Cadiz fans anxious to show their support for Sergio's men.
Girona have just managed to do in 12 minutes which Barcelona failed to do in 120 last week and that is score against Bordalas' Getafe.

Huge amount of expectation with many keen to see Yamal in action.
All set in Cadiz locker room
The Andalusian side will be in their traditional yellow and blue for tonight's game at Montjuic.
Barcelona too will sport their classic azul-grana with the new home shirt getting its first run out in LaLiga this season.
Just over half an hour to go before kick off in Barcelona.
Tickets are still available for Barcelona's home season debut with many azulgrana season ticket holders giving the option to see the team in action at the new temporary home a miss.
The ground has a capacity of just under 50,000.
Cadiz XI confirmed
Sergio has named his side ahead of the clash in Montjuic as Roger Marti and Chris Ramos lead the attack for the Andalusian side.
A big day for Lamine as the 16-year-old has been already touted as the next great thing to emerge from FC Barcelona.
The winger looked excellent in the Trofeo Gamper vs Spurs but only showed glimpses of his talent in his time on the pitch last week away in Getafe.
FCB XI confirmed
Xavi has named his side ahead of the game against Cadiz.
Promising teenager Yamal gets a start and will assist Lewandowski as both Gavi and Pedri are given starts.

Following their red cards last Sunday in Getafe, Barcelona are without Xavi Hernandez tonight with the head coach having to watch the game from a box.
Also missing will be Brazilian Raphinha who was awarded a direct red during the first half.
History on Barça's side
Barça's overall record against Cádiz is a good with 21 wins 5 draws and just 4 defeats in 30 meetings against the Andalusian side.
Getafe v FCB highlights
Barcelona endured a tricky trip to Getafe and as in previous seasons, the Catalan giants struggled to breakdown a well drilled and organised Azulon side who did all in their powers to frustrate the current league champions with the game ending goalless.
Cadiz v Alaves (highlights)
Cadiz got their season off to a winning start last weekend with San Emeterio bagging an early goal against Alaves.

Cadiz are ready !
Cadiz will be looking to emulate their 2022 result where they stunned Barça at Camp Nou with a 0-1 win with Lucas Perez getting the sole goal of the night.
First LaLiga game for FCB in Montjuic
With Camp Nou being renovated, Barcelona will spend the new two seasons (at least) in their temporary home at the Olympic Stadium in Montjuic or the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys which is roughly 6km from their traditional home.
Despite the table at this stage of the season holding any reasonable bearing, Barcelona will be very aware that Real Madrid sit at the summit with two (away) wins in their opening games of the new campaign.
Both sides enjoyed differing opening day experiences with the Andalusian side toiling to secure maximum points over Alaves with Xavi's FC Barcelona failing to break down a dogged Getafe who did all they could in their powers to frustrate the Catalan side.
