Barça face Cádiz in the Monday game that closes match-day 32 at Camp Nou with the Catalan club still reeling from the ‘double defeat’ suffered last Thursday as Xavi’s men were dumped out of the Europa League by Eintracht Frankfurt (2-3) in a Camp Nou full of visiting fans that has outraged the blaugrana social masses.

After an exciting start to 2022, the Europa League setback now sees the Catalan giants fighting in just one competition (LaLiga Santander) with a current 12 point gap between leaders Real Madrid and a Barça side that hasn’t tasted defeat since December last year with a 0-1 home defeat to Betis. Despite the gulf at the summit of the table, the Catalan club have yet to throw in the towel with a win at home to relegation threatened Cadiz imperative in a game that can be enjoyed by fans in the US on ESPN+.

Xavi Hernandez’s team have won seven consecutive league games in which they have scored 22 goals and have only conceded 4. This run has propelled his side into to second place with a place in next season’s Champions League crucial given the club’s delicate financial situation.

Cádiz looking for first ever win at Camp Nou

Despite having never secured a win at Camp Nou, the Andalusians will be encouraged by last season’s visit to the Catalan capital where they managed to pull off a surprise last season in Barcelona, holding them to a 1-1 draw.

Injury concerns for Xavi

Xavi Hernández’s team will be missing their most in-form player as Pedro González ‘Pedri’ had to be substituted against Eintracht Frankfurt due to a muscular problem that could rule the Canary Islander out for the rest of the season.

His injury, coupled with the absence of Ansu Fati, Sergi Roberto, Samuel Umtiti and Gerard Piqué and the suspended Ronald Araujo will force Xavi to call upon Eric Garcia, Clément Lenglet and Óscar Mingueza to man the Barça back line.

Cádiz will be missing midfielder Rubén Alcaraz, who is suspended with Álex Fernández set for a return to the team with the Madrid born player getting less and less playing time since the arrival of Sergio González on the Cádiz bench. The injured Varazdat Haroyan, Isaac Carcelén and Florin Andone will also be absent for the Andalusian side.
