Barcelona president Joan Laporta’s emotional rant at “jealous scoundrels”
Laporta launched into a passionate defence of the club against “ferocious attacks” from “shameless individuals” which are “motivated by jealousy”.
After posting about the Negreira scandal on social media and then referring to it at a function with supporters clubs in Vitoria, Barcelona president Joan Laporta has spoken about it publicly for a third time since Real Madrid revealed that they will be represented at the trial should the judge open it up to affected parties. And Laporta came out fighting in his latest speech, launching into a highly emotional defence of the club at an event held with representatives from its different sections.
Emotional Laporta lays into “scoundrels” tarnishing the club
“What happens is that some people, who are motivated by jealousy, are trying to damage our reputation by starting campaigns against us which are carried out in bad faith. You cannot buy or sell what it means to be Barcelona, but you cannot tarnish it either. And recently there have been some ferocious attacks which are trying to tarnish the name of the club but which have nothing to do with reality. And the club’s Board of Directors will defend it all the way”, stated the Barça president.
“Don’t think me getting emotional is a sign of weakness. I’m getting emotional because I really want to face up to all the scoundrels that are trying to tarnish our name. Nobody should think that it’s a sign of a weakness”, concluded Laporta.
