Barcelona reveal why they won’t be signing Paris Saint-Germain superstar Kylian Mbappé
Barça have ruled themselves out of the running for the Real Madrid target and believe they are being used by PSG.
Barcelona are currently in Los Angeles as part of their US tour and club bosses were taken by surprise when they woke up on Monday morning by claims from French newspaper L’Équipe that the LaLiga champions were set to hold talks with Paris Saint-Germain over the shock signing of Kylian Mbappé.
Barcelona “being used” as Real Madrid bait
The Catalans, however, have moved quickly to play down those reports, which they believe may be a ploy by the Parisian side to jolt Mbappé's long-term admirers Real Madrid into action (Los Blancos are hoping to sign the France captain for free in the summer of 2024 rather than pay a huge fee for him now).
The reasons why Mbappé won’t move to Barça
Barça have revealed that they won’t be getting involved, though, as they don’t possess the financial power to sign the attacker at present, while they also believe Madrid’s long-standing interest in Mbappé gives Los Merengues a significant advantage.
The message coming out of the club is clear: “This has got nothing to do with Barça”. The prospects of Mbappé joining Real Madrid, however, remain uncertain after PSG accepted a world-record bid for their star man from Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal.
