The signing of Robert Lewandowski by FC Barcelona is complete according to Spanish media outlet Cadena SER. It reports that the agreement with Bayern Munich was finalised at midnight on Saturday.

Lewandowski-Barça transfer details

According to the report, the transfer fee will be 45 million euros ($45 million) plus another five million in variables. Lewandowski did not want to stay in Germany and this has helped Barça president Joan Laporta manage to get one of the best strikers in the world.

Lewandowski did not want to present himself to Bayern’s shareholders on Saturday nor fly to the United States under Nagelsmann. Barça sources were already saying during the week that Friday would be a key day. Lewandowski’s dream was to wear the Barça colors for the first time in the US Clasico, that game against Real Madrid on 23 August in Las Vegas.

The transfer fee satisfied Bayern - who were not willing to give the player away and had always asked for around €50 million - as well as Barça, who consider the Pole to be the exciting figure who can restore the club’s international prestige. Not only that, they need the winning spirit and mentality that the team had lost in recent years.

A message from Lewandowski’s wife on Instagram had already raised Barça’s hopes. Anna Lewandowska responded with the prayer hands ‘thanks’ emoticon to a fan’s post welcoming her partner to Barcelona, one that was clearly interpreted as a wish on the part of the striker’s wife.

Lewandowski’s Saturday trip to Barcelona

Bayern Munich fans will be at the Allianz Arena this Saturday, where the Bundesliga champions’ squad will be unveiled with new faces such as Sadio Mané, Ryan Gravenberch and Noussair Mazraoui. Everything indicates that the official announcement of the transfer of the Pole will be made earlier so that Robert Lewandowski does not have to go through the ordeal of training in front of his fans when his desire is to go to Barcelona. The Pole will travel to Barcelona on Saturday morning and will sign with the Catalan giants until 2025 with an option for a further season. Salary details have not yet been revealed.

For his part, the sporting director, Hasan Salihamidzic, wanted to highlight the professionalism of the Polish striker. “I never had any doubts,” he said of the rumors surrounding the striker.

“Robert is a great professional, I know him very well, I never had any doubts about him not turning up for training,” he stressed after Lewandowski returned to coach Julian Nagelsmann on Wednesday.
