Barcelona supporters platform calls for Laporta’s resignation over Dani Olmo case
The platform ‘Som un clam’ add their voice to the criticism of Laporta with former presidential candidate Víctor Font demanding his resignation.
Opposition groups angry with the way FC Barcelona is being run are using the Dani Olmo case as a means to to try and undermine Joan Laporta’s position.
Despite a series of high profile problems during his second term in charge of the club, the 62-year-old has been able to ride the waves as president but anger at his management is growing steadily as it appears that, neither Dani Olmo or Pau Víctor will be able to play for the club again this season due to the cub being able to comply with LaLiga salary cap regulations.
Calls for Laporta to stand down
Barça supporter platform ‘Som un clam’, led by Joan Camprubí Montal, have issued a statement demanding the resignation of the Barcelona president. They claim that the Olmo case is the straw that broke the camel’s back of an erratic management tenure that “has failed to redirect the course of the club.”
Yesterday it was former Barça presidential candidate Víctor Font who demanded that Joan Laporta give a public explanation and do so before Hansi Flick’s press conference prior to Saturday’s Copa del Rey game against Barbastro.
Som un clam statement
“From Som un Clam we want to express our total indignation caused by the management of president Joan Laporta and the board of directors regarding the registration situation with Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor, and we demand their resignation.
What we have experienced in the last hours of 2024 shows that the vicious circle relating to the club’s ability to manage the situation has gone awry. Amateur and erratic management could now begin to affect the sporting performance of the first team, which could be deprived of two key players.
In just four years, FC Barcelona’s assets have been decapitalised using various ‘levers’, selling off strategic assets for the future to cover up holes resulting from chaotic and improvised management.
Despite promises of recovery, the club still lacks a solid financial plan or a coherent strategy to guarantee stability in the medium and long term. All this, while we watch with concern and astonishment how intermediaries are introduced with million-dollar commissions in operations such as the renewal of the sponsorship contract with Nike or the sponsorship deal with Spotify.
We, the members, cannot allow Barça to deteriorate in this way. We demand an end to the broken promises, the constant improvisation and the irresponsible sale of assets that are mortgaging the model of collective ownership that makes us unique.
A change of direction is urgently needed. We need to recover the transparency, planning and values that have made Barça more than just a club. The future of Barça depends on us, its members, and we will not sit idly by while the institution deteriorates.
Therefore, we demand the resignation of the president and the board of directors, while calling on Barcelona fans to mobilize, reverse this situation and make their voice heard.
At ‘Som un Clam’ we also want to show our solidarity with the players involved and express our support for Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor in these difficult times. We need their talent and commitment to face the sporting challenges which lie ahead for the first team with stability."
