Barcelona’s accounts don’t add up for Eintracht gate receipts

Barcelona decided to take the initiative to find out why there was an excess number of Eintracht Frankfurt fans attending Thursday’s Europa League tie at Camp Nou. The club says that it will open a thorough investigation to find out why so many tickets ended up in the hands of travelling supporters. In move designed to demonstrate transparency, the Catalan club, in the words of president Joan Laporta, confirmed, “We put 34,440 tickets on sale” and the following day, spokesperson Elena Fort, stated that Barça had receipts totalling “3 million euros from the sale of tickets from the game”.

Applying simple maths, it can be deduced that, based on the club’s figures, each ticket would have cost, on average 87.2 euros. But bearing in mind the ticket prices which Barcelona released on their own official web page, where there were no tickets available under 180 euros; and based on what Eintracht fans claimed they paid to get into Camp Nou when asked y Spanish and German media - “between 90 and 250 euros”, the numbers just don’t add up based on the club’s ticket prices and the receipts they gained.
