Bayern implosion puts Dortmund in driving seat for Bundesliga title

A shock 1-3 home defeat to RB Leipzig has handed the initiative to Dortmund who now control their own destiny in the 2022/23 Bundesliga title race.

There has been another dramatic twist in the race for the 2022/23 Bundesliga title race as Bayern Munich slumped to a shock 1-3 home defeat at the Allianz Arena against RB Leipzig with the loss putting Borussia Dortmund in pole position to secure the German title.

Edin Terzic’s men travel to Augsburg on Sunday currently trailing Bayern by one point (Bayern are on 68 points against BVB’s 67) and now aware that they control their own destiny as they attempt to halt Bayern’s Bundesliga dominance with the Bavarian side winning the last ten domestic league titles.

Roller coaster

The run-in to the German title race has been a roller coaster for both sides and following a 3-1 loss for Bayern at Mainz on 22 April, Dortmund emphatically beat Frankfurt and it seemed that the title was set to be tinged in black and yellow for the time in over a decade.

However, the following week, BVB slipped up at Bochum only managing a 1-1 draw and with Bayern seeing off Hertha BSC with a 2-0 home win, it was advantage Tuchel’s side again.

Following Bayern’s surprise defeat to Leipzig on Saturday, the pressure returns to Dortmund as they travel to an Augsburg side also desperate for points to avoid the spectre of relegation to the second tier.
