Keylor Navas is the best goalkeeper in the history of Costa Rica having accomplished plenty with the national team since making his debut in 2008. The 35-year-old goalkeeper was fundamental in Los Ticos 1-0 win over New Zealand earlier this week to secure the last spot in the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

As Navas is preparing to play his second World Cup, he has confirmed that he will retire from international duty at the end of the campaign after 14 years to let the younger generation take over and start a new process. Costa Rica’s manager, Luis Fernando Suárez, is already thinking about the future and Bayron Mora could take over the starting job as early as next year.

Bayron Mora is stepping up

The 19-year-old goalkeeper is participating with Costa Rica in the 2022 CONCACAF U20 Championship and made his debut against Jamaica on Saturday in Group D. Los Ticos and the Reggae Boyz ended in a 1-1 tie after minutes but Bayron Mora made some key saves to rescue the point in the group opener.

Mora plays for Costa Rican side Alajuelense but he has not made his professional debut so he needs to have solid performances in the CONCACAF U20 Championship to be considered by Luis Fernando Suárez in the near future. In Costa Rica many believe that Mora is the next Keylor Navas but only time will tell.
