Benfica set to sign Louisville City FC defender Joshua Wynder
The talented player will sign a deal with the Lisbon outfit when he turns 18.
Portuguese giants Benfica and Louisville City FC have an agreement in place for defender Joshua Wynder.
As reported by journalist Manuel Veth, the talented player will sign a contract with the Lisbon outfit when he turns 18 on 2 May. Louisville could earn an initial $1.2m plus bonuses from the transfer fee.
Last year, Wynder was a finalist for both US Soccer’s Young Male Player of the Year and the USL Championship Young Player of the Year, and is set to be the latest young talent from the Championship to move to Europe.
A graduate of the LouCity Academy, he had a breakthrough season in 2022, playing 24 times across the regular season and playoffs, and appeared in the club’s three postseason clashes as they won the Eastern Conference title.

Wynder plays as a centre-back and has been called into the USA U20 setup despite still only being 17. He has also represented the U19 side five times.
The U20 Men’s National Team squad will head to Spain next week for three games as they prepare for the 2023 FIFA U20 World Cup in May.
The US will play against top opposition in England, France and Serbia during their camp in Marbella, Spain. They will face an England U20 side that won the 2022 UEFA U19 Championship last year to qualify for this year’s World Cup.
