Update:

It was a sensational night of soccer in the UEFA Nations League on Sunday, with the second legs of the four quarterfinals producing no fewer than 21 goals, an average of 5.25 per game.

Six of those came in Spain’s draw against the Netherlands in Valencia, which was followed by the European champions winning a penalty shootout after the encounter had finished 5-5 on aggregate.

In addition to the goals, there were opportunities galore at both ends, while Lamine Yamal continued his sensational season by scoring a sublime effort in the first half of extra time.

Van Hooijdonk: “Spain vs Netherlands was soccer porn”

Such was the drama at Mestlla, former Netherlands international striker Pierre van Hooijdonk almost got a little too excited when giving his analysis of the 210 minutes of action between the teams, including the 2-2 draw in Rotterdam last Thursday.

“I enjoyed the two games. This was soccer porn. Two top-level countries that battled against one another with 10 goals in two games. The Dutch team came from behind three times in tonight’s game. It had everything. This is why we love soccer so much”.

Yamal vs Mbappé in Nations League semifinal

Spain progress to the UEFA Nations League Finals, where they will take on France in Stuttgart on June 5. Germany take on Portugal in Munich in the other semi the previous day. The Netherlands, meanwhile, go out, but with their heads held high.
