Borussia Dortmund is managing Gio Reyna’s minutes
The United States men’s national team ace has played a total of 118 minutes in the Bundesliga this season however he has yet to start a match.
Gio Reyna is slowly finding his rhythm after suffering several serious injuries last season and Borussia Dortmund is managing his minutes until he reaches peak form. The United States international has made four appearances in the Bundesliga this campaign but he has yet to start a match.
Reyna has played a total of 118 minutes so far this season in the Bundesliga and the manager Edin Terzic decided to rest him during matchday’s two and four. The 19-year-old also missed the season opener against Bayer Leverkusen on 6 August in Dortmund’s 1-0 win at Westfalenstadion.
Reyna’s latest appearance
On Saturday Borussia Dortmund hosted Schalke 04 and Gio Reyna was left on the bench for the start of the match. In the 32nd minute, Marco Reus suffered a serious injury and had to be carried off in tears on a stretcher to leave the pitch. Terzic decided to put in Gio Reyna, but in the second half he was replaced by Julian Brandt so he only played 52 minutes in the 1-0 win over Schalke.
The United States international is aware that he can’t play a full game just yet, but during the post-game interview he talked about his performances so far this season. “Today was the first game where I really felt up to par,” said Reyna. The American also told the media that Borussia Dortmund is managing his minutes with the USMNT for the upcoming friendlies.
