Borussia Dortmund line up Edson Álvarez as Bellingham’s replacement
The Bundesliga side have Edson Álvarez in mind to replace Real Madrid-bound Jude Bellingham.
Edson Álvarez continues on the radar of Europe’s big clubs with a new suitor emerging in recent days. Borussia Dortmund are reported to be interested in signing the Mexican for next season - a campaign which they could be confronting without Jude Bellingham, who appears to be heading to Real Madrid this summer.
According to reports in German newspaper Bild, Edson Álvarez is high on Borussia Dortmund’s list of candidates to replace Bellingham who is reported to have a multimillion-euro deal in place with Real Madrid. Dortmund have already approached Ajax to ask about Álvarez and are confident that they can reach an agreement with the Dutch club and the 25-year-old player.
Edson joined Ajax from América on a 15 million euros deal in the summer of 2019. Two years later in October 2021, he agreed a contract extension - a new deal that would keep him in Amsterdam until 2025. The Dutch giants would reportedly want a fee of around 50 million euros for Edson - the price they gave Chelsea when the Londoners tried to sign him in the recent winter transfer window. Álvarez has long dreamed of playing in the Bundesliga and is also believed to be on Bayern Munich’s radar.
How much is Alvarez worth?
According to Transfermarkt, Edson Álvarez is currently worth 35 million euros being one of the most valuable Mexicans on the market at the moment. This season, the 25-year-old has played 2,319 minutes in the league, starting 27 of the 28 games he has played.
