Borussia Dortmund - Real Madrid Champions League final delayed by pitch invaders
Overly enthusiastic supporters evaded security at Wembley, taking a selfie with Jude Bellingham and imitating Cristiano Ronaldo.
The much-anticipated Champions League final between Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid at Wembley was delayed by several pitch invaders breaking onto the field of play around 30 seconds after the match had started. And it turns out they had 300,000 reasons to do so.
Three different men evaded security at the home of the England national team, with one running across the field and doing Cristiano Ronaldo’s famous “siuuuuu” celebration, while another was seen strolling rather leisurely across the surface with his phone in hand, seemingly taking selfies with Jude Bellingham and Vinícius Júnior.
Who is Mellstroy? Invaders have streamers’ name on shirt
All three of the individuals were wearing t-shirts sporting the name “Mellstroy,” a well-off Russian streamer who initially created YouTube videos related to Minecraft but has drawn criticism, as well as earning huge amounts of money, for making rather more controversial content.
It later transpired that Mellstroy had offered £300,000 to anyone who invaded the Champions League final field with his name on their t-shirt.
Play was delayed for only for a short period, with security forces at Wembley and Dortmund’s Marcel Sabitzer - tackling them before escorting them off the field and restoring order. False starts aren’t especially common in soccer, but this definitely counts as one.
