Brazil and Switzerland are both eyeing last-16 qualification today, as they prepare to face off at Stadium 974 in World Cup Group G.

In their opening match in Qatar on Thursday, Brazil swatted Serbia aside with a 2-0 win - a scoreline that severely flattered their opponents. Now, the five-time world champions will book their knockout-stage spot with a game to spare if they beat the Swiss and, in Monday’s early World Cup kick-off, Cameroon either draw or lose against the Serbians.

As for Switzerland, who claimed a 1-0 victory over Cameroon on matchday one, Murat Yakin’s side will progress today if they take three points against Brazil and Serbia fail to win.

Brazil vs Switzerland: match odds

After Brazil’s impressive display in midweek, the bookmakers are, unsurprisingly, backing the Seleção to make it six points from six in Group G. A Brazilian win is priced at around -210 to -225 in US betting houses.

A draw is valued at +320 to +340, while a victory for Switzerland comes with odds that are mainly placed at the +650 mark.

Brazil vs Switzerland: prediction

Brazil and Switzerland have met twice before at the World Cup, with both encounters ending in stalemate. Most recently, the teams drew 1-1 in the group stage at Russia 2018, Steven Zuber cancelling out Philippe Coutinho’s opener for the South Americans.

Currently on a run of eight wins in a row in all competitions, however, Brazil look good to beat the Swiss for the first time at the tournament.

They’ll be without star forward Neymar, who is out with an ankle injury, but they have plenty of options in reserve. Real Madrid’s Rodrygo Goes and Arsenal’s Gabriel Jesus are among the attacking alternatives available to head coach Tite, who could also opt to bring another midfielder into a three-man engine room, alongside Casemiro and Lucas Paquetà.

In Richarlison, moreover, Brazil have a striker in fine international form. The Tottenham Hotspur player, whose brace against Serbia included a fabulous acrobatic volley, has scored seven in his last nine appearances for the Canarinha.

Switzerland are in decent nick themselves, though: they’ve won their last four competitive fixtures, conceding less than a goal a game on that run. What’s more, the Swiss have built up an impressive World Cup pedigree in recent times, reaching the last 16 at three of the last four finals. So don’t expect them to be pummelled in the way Serbia were.

Prediction: Brazil 2-1 Switzerland
