Brian Gutiérrez: The most wanted man in Liga MX

Brian Gutiérrez, the 22-year-old Mexican-American forward from MLS side Chicago Fire, is quickly becoming one of the most sought-after young talents for Liga MX’s biggest clubs.

Although the MLS season is not yet over and the Liga MX Clausura is still underway, Mexican clubs are already planning for the next tournament. América and Monterrey have reportedly been closely monitoring Gutiérrez, who recently obtained his Mexican passport.

Chivas enters the conversation

According to MLS insider Tom Bogert, both América and Monterrey have been considering bringing Gutiérrez in for the 2026 Clausura. No official offers had been made at that point, but interest was strong.

Now, journalist César Luis Merlo reports that Chivas has officially joined the race, competing directly with Monterrey. Both Chivas and Monterrey have submitted formal proposals, similar in structure, though still below Chicago Fire’s asking price. Negotiations are ongoing as the MLS club evaluates the offers.

Brian Gutiérrez’s career to date

A product of the Fire Academy, Gutiérrez has established himself in U.S. soccer with 164 appearances and 21 goals for Chicago Fire across multiple competitions, including the Leagues Cup. He has faced Liga MX teams such as Puebla, América, and Toluca in that tournament, though his team fell in each encounter.

According to Transfermarkt, Gutiérrez currently carries a market value of $5 million, and his contract with Chicago Fire runs through December 2028. That means any club looking to sign him will likely face a significant transfer fee.
