Brilliant Real Madrid youngster Endrick shines again despite setback

The 19-year-old Brazilian dazzled with two assists for Lyon, but late drama denied him a win against Marseille in Ligue 1.

Update:

Even Endrick’s two assists and a brilliant performance at Marseille’s Stade Vélodrome could not prevent Lyon from losing. Paulo Fonseca’s side went ahead 2-1 with 10 minutes to play, only to see Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang score twice in two minutes, reviving a Marseille team that had looked on the brink amid recent internal turmoil.

Real Madrid loanee causes havoc

The Real Madrid loanee troubled Marseille throughout the match, exploiting a sluggish start from the home side. Endrick capitalized on a defensive misstep to set up Tolisso for a first-time finish, leaving goalkeeper Rulli with no chance. That marked Endrick’s seventh goal involvement in eight games since arriving in France.

The goal unleashed the Brazilian’s attacking flair. He came close to scoring two spectacular strikes. First, a bicycle kick that Rulli somehow parried. Then, after a lightning run past four defenders, Endrick had a clear one-on-one chance but tried to finish with a delicate chip, missing what should have been an easy goal.

Lyon’s early dominance

Marseille briefly responded, but could not contain Lyon’s 4-4-2 diamond formation, with Endrick partnering Yaremchuk up front. The Ukrainian forward inexplicably ignored a chance to set up the Brazilian, instead trying to score himself, allowing Rulli to prevent a goal right before halftime. Endrick left the first half with mixed emotions, having excelled individually.

Lyon looks set to seal it

In the early second half, Lyon almost put the game out of reach. Endrick produced two brilliant passes: Tessmann was denied in a one-on-one, and Tolisso scored, only for the goal to be ruled out for a marginal offside. Marseille’s response came in flashes, equalizing at the worst moment for Lyon thanks to a stunning goal from Paixao.

Aubameyang turns it on

The 1-1 scoreline proved temporary. Endrick again set up a teammate, Himbert, who surprisingly missed a golden chance. Moments later, Endrick assisted the young Lyon player once more to put Lyon ahead 2-1, briefly silencing the Vélodrome crowd.

But it took just four minutes for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to strike. The veteran 36-year-old scored twice to rescue Marseille, whose second-half display had lacked intensity, sending the stadium into chaos and giving Habib Beye his first win as Marseille manager

Endrick’s brilliance was not enough.
