The Uruguayan spoke about ongoing talks with La Máquina for the Clausura 2024. New coach Martín Anselmi hopes to strengthen each line of the team.

With the incorporation of new coach Martín Anselmi, Cruz Azul are making progress with their plans to add a second reinforcement for the 2024 Clausura. Negotiations are reported to be at an advanced stage for Uruguayan left-back Camilo Cándido. The 28-year-old has another 18 months left on his contract with Nacional and spent the last six months on loan in Brazil at EC Bahia.

Negotiations continue

In an interview with Uruguayan outlet Sports 890, Cándido shared details about the ongoing negotiations with Cruz Azul, noting: “I know that there is interest from Mexico with a concrete offer for three years and a definitive purchase. They haven’t informed me of anything yet, they haven’t told me that everything is closed. My representatives are working on the matter.”

If the operation is completed, Cándido would join the Cementeros on a permanent deal. Nacional Montevideo own 70% of his rights, with the player controlling the remaining 30% himself. A three-year deal contract would keep him at the Azteca until December 2026.

Cándido’s career has taken him far and wide - he has starred for several teams in his homeland, including Rampla Juniors, San Martín de San Juan, Liverpool Fútbol Club and Nacional. He missed just a handful of games in Serie A during his recent loan stint at Bahia. In Brazil, he made a total of 45 appearances, scored two goals and assisted with another six.
