Over the weekend, Xavi announced that he would be leaving Barcelona in June, and at his press conference earlier today - ahead of Real Madrid’s short trip to Getafe - Carlo Ancelotti spoke about the Catalan coach’s decision to leave the Blaugrana.

How difficult is the trip to Getafe?

“Very tough... but the team is doing well and we will play well. We are solid, we play good football and we feel strong. It will be demanding, but we have our confidence intact. It’s a crucial one.”

Is it tough for you to manage Real Madrid?

“I knew this question would come up (laughs). I just want to say one thing and I don’t want comparisons. We (coaches) have a fantastic job, with pressure, which is normal. And I respect everyone, their words and thoughts... whether it’s Xavi or anyone else.”

Ancelotti on Xavi

Do you understand Xavi’s decision?

“I understand it.”

Have you felt something similar to Xavi, like not being valued?

“As I said, I respect his decisions and his thoughts. That’s it, what I don’t want is comparisons.”

What do you have to do to avoid going against the tide in so many games?

“Score first... that would be nice! But, as I said, if we have to come from behind and we do, it means we have the resources.”

Would you like Modric to renew?

“He is a football legend and a club legend. The decisions for next season will have to be made by him.”

What advice would you give Güler?

“He’s progressing well, he’s getting better physically every day, getting used to the intensity of this football. He’s doing well now and he’ll get minutes.

“But, as I said, we have to be patient. I understand that there is a lot of pressure on him, because a whole country, Turkey, wants to see him play for Real Madrid, but the boy is 18 years old. His time will come.”
