Carlos Vela advice to Gareth Bale prior to joining LAFC
On Tuesday the Los Angeles Football Club announced that the Mexican international signed a contract extension through the 2023 season.
Carlos Vela and the Los Angeles Football Club reached a contract agreement to stay in Major League Soccer through the 2023 season. The Mexican international said that his priority was to stay with LAFC but if he didn’t re-signed with the MLS side his intention was to look for a club in Europe’s top tier.
“I did have some offers from Liga MX clubs but my priority was to stay in Los Angeles with LAFC. If things didn’t work out then I would consider the offers I had in Europe as my second option but returning to Mexico was not really an option to continue my career,” said Vela during Tuesday’s press conference.
Carlos Vela also confirmed that he has retired from international duty but wishes Mexico the best in the upcoming FIFA World Cup. The 33-year-old is happy to have re-sign with LAFC and talked about the arrivals of Giorgio Chiellini and Gareth Bale will help the team make a strong run to win the MLS Cup this season.
“Regardless of the signings the club has made, I wanted to stay with LAFC and keep enjoying Los Angeles. The icing on the cake was the arrivals of Bale and Chiellini and with these players we have more opportunity to become champions but that responsibility is an added pressure that we have to manage,” added Vela.

“Well this league is very physical. If Bale is in good shape and comes with a good mentality and attitude he will be very important because he is a big player that comes from Real Madrid so I don’t have to talk much about him. Everyone knows how good Bale is. The only thing I can say is that he will have to work hard because MLS is not an easy league like many people think,” said Vela.
