Major League Soccer and Liga MX are going to showcase the Leagues Cup tournament that is set to kick off in the summer of 2023 with two friendlies at the SoFi stadium on 4 August in the heart of Los Angeles, California. This will be the first time that soccer clubs play at the 70,000 seat venue and four of the biggest clubs in CONCACAF are ready to put on a show.

Vela wants to build winning mentality

Los Angeles Football Club will play against Club América at SoFi stadium and Carlos Vela is eager to play against the Liga MX side for the second time in his career. The last time the Mexican international scored two goals in two minutes for a 10-man LAFC side in the 2020 CONCACAF Champions League semi-final and he is eager to see them again in Los Angeles.

That’s in the past and I think we should live in the present. I built a great relationship with Guillermo Ochoa [América goalkeeper] during my time with the Mexico national team and off the pitch as well,” said Vela at Tuesday’s press conference.

Even though this is a friendly, Vela is aware that playing against big clubs like América is an important step forward for LAFC as they are trying to build a winning mentality. The ‘Black & Gold’ have failed to win the MLS Cup since debuting in the league in 2018 and they want to change the history of the club this season.

“We respect Club América, but we will focus on playing our style of soccer. We want to continue preparing for our season and reach our top form before the playoffs. So we will try to win the game because we are trying to build a winning culture with LAFC and it starts by winning every game,” added the Mexican international.

Vela also added that it is important for LAFC to play against a different team to get to experience different styles.
