Sadly, the fires in California continue to rage and are not only causing irreparable damage but also claiming lives. Los Angeles is experiencing the most destructive blaze in history and one of those counting the cost of the damage is Mexican soccer player Carlos Vela - one of the hundreds of people who have been directly affected by the events of the past few days.

The former LAFC player and his wife Saioa Cañibano lost their home in Malibu as a consequence of the fires.

Vela’s wife took to social media to share images of the fires, accompanied by a text in which she laments the loss of her house, which has left the whole family in shock.

“Our beautiful Malibu home burned down yesterday… we are still in shock with everything that is happening. It is very sad and scary to see everything burning,” Saioa wrote, before adding that while it’s heartbreaking to lose your home, things could be much worse.

“For all the messages of concern that we are receiving, we are safe. Sending lots of love to all those affected and hopefully they will soon manage to put out the fire”.

LAFC and LA Galaxy stand in solidarity with those affected by the fires

Through social media, the two main Los Angeles-based MLS teams sent messages of support to the hundreds of people who have been affected by the fires.

“Our hearts go out to our city and our community.Thank you to the fire departments and security for protecting us. Let’s stay safe and stay strong and support each other,” LAFC wrote.

“Our hearts are with our city and all those in Southern California affected by the raging wildfires. We are grateful for the people working hard to protect our communities,” reads the LA Galaxy statement.

Authorities believe the fire started accidentally in a back yard on the outskirts of the city on Tuesday morning. Other celebrities who lost their homes include Paris Hilton, Anthony Hopkins and John Goodman. The blaze, which has claimed the lives of five people so far, has caused an estimated $60 billion in damages.
