Carvajal forced to wait while Real Madrid deliberate over his future

The moment to resolve the uncertainty surrounding his future has been postponed. Something similar happened with Nacho, Kroos, and Modric.

Dani Carvajal will have to wait — there’s really no other way to put it. The Real Madrid captain’s future, both on the field and contractually, remains unresolved.

The European champion’s physical resurgence is obvious, and his performances continue trending upward, but any decision about what comes next won’t be made just yet. It’s a familiar pattern for Madrid: Nacho, Kroos, and Modric all had their futures settled in the final stretch of past seasons. Now it’s Carvajal, whose contract expires in three months, still without clarity on what the club intends to do.

Carvajal keen to renew

As the season has progressed, several teams have reached out to gauge his plans. His answer has never changed: “Real Madrid is my absolute priority.” Nothing has shifted on that front, and until he sits down with club president Florentino Pérez, his focus remains fully on Madrid.

Spain is back in action with the World Cup already looming in the distance. Meanwhile, Real Madrid is entering a decisive stretch in both LaLiga and the Champions League.

At the moment, Carvajal’s situation isn’t front and center. His contributions are growing, though not at the pace he’d like. His confidence is returning, and it shows every time he steps on the field — the recent derby was a perfect example. His competitive fire makes the uncertainty uncomfortable, but he knows the final word hasn’t been spoken.

Spain recall

Both Rodri and Spain manager Luis de la Fuente have praised what Carvajal brings to the European champions: stability on the pitch, leadership, and professionalism day to day. Being named to the preliminary roster for Spain’s upcoming matchups against Serbia and Egypt gave him a major morale boost and reinforced his push to get back to top form.

His competitive nature won’t let him settle, but if Carvajal has proven anything over the years, it’s his ability to fight through adversity. Real Madrid’s leadership hasn’t made its position public yet. They understand his importance, but the club has shown before that sentiment doesn’t outweigh tough decisions when it comes to farewells. The resolution will come in a few weeks.

Carvajal has appeared in 12 league matches this season, starting seven. He’s played in four of Madrid’s last five games, and his most recent appearance for Spain came in September against Bulgaria.

De la Fuente is eager to have him back, and if he maintains consistent minutes with Madrid, his return to the national team is close. Regardless, he remains fully committed to the squad and its goals — he knows he’s part of the group.
