César Montes has only spent a short time in Spanish soccer - little over six months. He joined Espanyol in the January transfer window and now he could be on his way back home to Mexico as América have him in mind to reinforce their backline for the current Apertura 2023.

According to TUDN reporter Gibran Araige, El Cachorro (The Pup) is the main concern for the Azulcrema board at the moment. The same source announced that the negotiations have been progressing well and it is expected that in the next few days the two clubs and the player will reach an agreement to finalize the transaction.

Montes joined the Periquitos after his participation in the Qatar 2022 World Cup. Since then, the central defender has played 22 official matches and scored two goals. In spite of his good performances, the Mexican could not avoid the team’s relegation this season.

This summer, he was called up by Mexico to take part in the Gold Cup, which Jaime Lozano’s team won, beating Panama in the final.
