Champions League great Clarence Seedorf: ‘I see myself in Weston McKennie’

Weston McKennie has become an important player for Juventus as the Italian giants battle to secure a spot in next year’s Champions League. The USMNT midfielder was out of favor at the start of the season but is now so valued by head coach Luciano Spalletti that the Turin club are seeking to renew his contract.

His impressive recent form led soccer legend Clarence Seedorf to shower Weston McKennie with praise, stating that the young American has qualities that remind him of his time as a player.

“In him, I see myself in the early years of my career,” Seedorf said of McKennie’s recent performances. “There is everything, tactical intelligence and desire to make yourself available, but above all excellent quality in both phases.”

In the first leg he played as a false 9, providing an assist, and in the second he was required to fill in at left back and provided a crucial goal.
