Champions League start and Madrid derby, what else is coming up in September for Real Madrid?

Carlo Ancelotti’s team are back in action next weekend as they travel to the city of San Sebastian to face Real Sociedad.

Following LaLiga confirming the schedule for match days six through to eight, Los Blancos fans now know the precise times when their side will be in action in September. For the remainder of the month, Carlo Ancelotti’s men will play five games which includes their opening contest in the newly expanded UEFA Champions League and a Madrid derby against Atlético, which will be played at the Estadio Metropolitano.

After the international break, Ancelotti’s men will resume competition on Saturday 14th, when they will travel to Anoeta to face Real Sociedad. It will be the only trip outside the Spanish capital all month with three home games coming up along with the short trip to the San Blas neighbourhood to face the ‘Colchoneros’.

The reigning UCL champions begin their title defence against German opposition as VFB Stuttgart are the visitors to the Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday 17th.

Real Madrid's schedule for September

Saturday 14 - League (5th round)

  • Tuesday 17 - Champions (1st round)

    • Real Madrid-Stuttgart (9:00 p.m., M+ Champions League)

La Liga action then takes centre stage as Madrid host Espanyol on Saturday 21st with league action continuing the following midweek as Alavés visit the capital closing a run of three matches in eight days at the Bernabéu.

The highlight of September will be inevitably be the derby against Atlético Madrid at the Cívitas Metropolitano, in a match scheduled for Sunday 29th at 3pm (ET).

What's coming in October

On Wednesday 2 October Ancelottti’s side travel to Lille in the second matchday of the Champions League phase and on the weekend of 5-6 October they host Villarreal.

October will also end with a high profile fixture with the first El Clásico against Barcelona set for Saturday 26th/Sunday 27th at the Bernabéu.
