Chelsea’s transfer frenzy set to continue
The transfer policy will continue to be the same as last year, according to Ben Jacobs. Pochettino has already requested new signings, arguing that the team cannot do more.
The worst team in the Premier League, at least in terms of points gained during 2023, will continue to plug holes by whipping out their checkbook. By far and away the major protagonists of the last few transfer windows due to an economic waste on an unprecedented level, the Blues promise a new ‘crazy’ transfer period.
According to Ben Jacobs, Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley will continue to lead the club’s sports management under Mauricio Pochettino. These two names are the same ones that have been in charge of Chelsea’s crazy transfer policy in recent months since Todd Boehly’s arrival at Stamford Bridge.
Furthermore, the American journalist affirms that said transfer policy will continue to be the same as previously in the next transfer windows. And with it, Pochettino’s statements in recent weeks that his squad cannot do much more and that he needs further reinforcements in January.
During last summer’s transfer period, the London-based club spent a total of 467 million euros on transfers, and in the previous winter market, the outlay was 443 million.
Stewart and Winstanley will not evaluate the work of the Argentine coach, from whom they will also listen to requests regarding signings, until the season ends. They want to give you confidence and the means to resolve a really complicated situation.
Seventh defeat of the season
Chelsea crashed to a 2-0 defeat at Everton at the weekend - the team’s seventh defeat in 16 outings. The result leaves Pochettino’s side lodged in 12th position in the table with just 13 points - a massive 17-gap separating them from the European qualifying places. The Blues ended last season in a similar position and it looks very much like they will be left out of Europe again - in spite of their unbridled spending.
