The Switzerland international limped out of Chicago Fire’s 0-0 draw against FC Dallas last weekend, but he could see some minutes against the Galaxy.

One of the biggest fixtures this weekend in Major League Soccer is the Chicago Fire hosting the LA Galaxy, because Chicharito Hernández could face off against Xherdan Shaqiri, in a clash between two of the biggest stars in the league. The Mexican international is in top form with five goals in the opening six games of the campaign.

On the other side is Shaqiri, who arrived in MLS this season, and has scored one goal and provided two assists in his first five appearances. Unfortunately, the Switzerland international limped out in the 19th minute in Chicago’s 0-0 draw against FC Dallas last weekend and is a doubt for the game against the Galaxy.

Injury update

I feel good to be honest and right now I am day-to-day but there is a possibility to be on the pitch,” Shaqiri said during Wednesday’s press conference hosted at Soldier Field prior to facing the Galaxy.

Shaqiri’s impression of MLS so far

I was not really surprised how good the league is because I knew that it is growing, how the players are growing and progressing. Many young MLS players are going to Europe, so you can see that the quality is getting better every year and the clubs are investing in players to win trophies. MLS is very competitive and I am really happy and enjoying being here,” he added.

Shaqiri has made an immediate impact and has led Chicago Fire to their best start in nine years. The last time they won the MLS Cup was in 1998 and the midfielder’s main goal is to return the Chicago franchise to their glory days by winning silverware.

I didn’t come here as a tourist, I came here to work, I want to bring the team to the glory and that is my goal. I also want to help this team to grow, to compete with the best teams in the league and try to win trophies,” added Shaqiri, who believes that Chicago Fire can still improve much more.
