Inter Miami continue red-hot MLS run
Another win for Inter Miami - the seventh in their last eight MLS games - ensures that they maintain a four-point lead at the top of the Supporters' Shield rankings. Luis Suarez was on the scoresheet again, scoring twice to take his tally for the season to 16 MLS goals.
He's now just one goal behind Chicho Arango and Christian Benteke at the top of the MLS Golden Boot standings for 2024. With another seven games to go, Suarez will fancy his chances of surpassing Arango and Benteke.
Big three combine to win the game for Inter Miami
The Herons were on top for much of the game but needed this third goal to make it safe against Chicago Fire. It was the trio of former Barcelona players that combined for the deciding goal, showing their class once again.
A perfectly-flighted pass from Sergio Busquets, a delicate touch from Jordi Alba and a poacher's finish from Luis Suarez. A comfortable road win for Inter Miami.

An assured showing from Inter Miami reiterates their Supporters' Shield credentials. A brace from Luis Suarez will make headlines, but the performance of Sergio Busquets at the back brought real authority to this Miami performance.
Good pressing from Taylor and Campana forces a mistake out of Carlos Teran and Miami win a throw-in in the Chicago half.
Gaston Gimenez takes aim from 35 yards out. His shot takes a deflection and bounces out for a corner kick to Chicago Fire.
The resultant corner is whipped in but it ends up in the hands of Drake Callender.
Nice unselfish play from Campana there. He would have been within his rights to shoot there but correctly identified that Taylor had a better angle in the middle.
Miami's substitutes combine to secure the game.

Miami soak up the pressure and break swiftly. Leo Campana runs onto a through-ball and square it to Taylor, who coolly slots it past Brady.
That's the game for Inter Miami.
Chicago regroup and try to push Inter Miami back. They're playing the ball around nicely but there's no real penetration from the Fire.
Another Inter Miami change. It's Diego Gomez coming off, to be replaced by Robert Taylor.
We're going to have nine minutes of added time at Soldier Field.
Attempted one-two between Acosta and Lassiter is overhit and the ball runs out for an Inter Miami goal kick. A wasted opportunity to get the ball into the box.
Ian Fray will have to come off the field after getting treatment. It looks like Tata Martino is preparing another sub.

They couldn't could they? It was a nicely worked goal from Chicago Fire, keeping things interesting as we approach the final stages.
Tata Martino is back on full alert on the touchline, screaming to his players to look alive. Inter Miami were cruising in this one but there's a sense of optimism at Soldier Field now.
Chicago Fire waste no time after the restart and win a free kick on the left, a chance to deliver with quality.
It's curled in by Haile-Selassie but Callender claims it well in the middle.

The substitute gets on the scoresheet for Chicago, poking home at the front post after good work from Acosta on the right.
Luis Suarez is off. Leo Campana comes on in his place.
A fine performance from Suarez.
After two minutes of gesticulating on the touchline, Suarez is back on the field and finds himself in on goal.
This time it's Weigandt who slips him the ball but the Uruguayan can't find the back of the net from a tight angle.
Gomez strikes the woodwork from 30 yards.
Inter Miami mount a break and Diego Gomez finds space for a shot. It's a long way out but his strike is a good one, cannoning back off the inside of the post and bouncing clear.

Luis Suarez
The Uruguayan is told to leave the field of play momentarily after receiving treatment. He tells the referee exactly what he thinks of the league's new treatment rules, and finds himself in the book.
The game's halted momentarily so Suarez can receive medical assistance. The referee's not convinced by his claims of a foul.
And another switch for the hosts. Ariel Lassiter comes on for his Chicago debut, replacing Andrew Gutman.
First changes of the night for Miami.
Gressel and Redondo come off. Cremaschi and Ruiz come on.

Here it is, Luis Suarez's 16th goal of a brilliant debut campaign in MLS.
Chicago hurl a long throw-in into the box but Drake Callender comes out to claim it well.
He's had very little to do tonight, Callender.
That third goal has extinguished any hope of a comeback and the home crowd are well aware of that fact.
With that goal, Luis Suarez equals the single-season scoring record for Inter Miami. He goes level with a very well-known star who also enjoyed a celebrated career in Europe...
That's the 16th MLS goal of the season for Suarez. Just one goal off the Golden Boot front-runners, Arango and Benteke.
The three ex-Barcelona stars combine for that goal. Busquets clips the ball out to Alba on the left. He cushions a perfect pass across the face of goal and Suarez is on hand to tap the ball home.
As easy as that.

The Chicago defender is booked for that challenge on Redondo.
Superb play from Redondo, spinning on the ball in the midfield and surging towards goal. He tries to slide the ball through to Suarez but is flattened by Rafael Czichos. Free kick Inter Miami.
It's a triple change for Chicago with Koustias, Teran and Acosta all entering.
Navarro, Mueller and Souquet are coming off.
Frank Klopas is readying some substitutions as the hour-mark approaches. Chicago have lost a little momentum.

The Miami midfielder is booked for a late challenge on Gutierrez in the midfield.
Sergio Busquets in there in the middle to head the corner kick clear. More good work from the Spaniard.
Chicago aren't given up and come forward down the right with Mueller. He tries to deliver but it's blocked by Busquets.

Good defending from Busquets to block two attempts from Cuypers. Chicago Fire win a corner kick.
The corner falls to the feet of Gutman on the edge of the box but his tame effort bounces wide.
Inter Miami play direct up to Suarez, running into the box again. This time he cuts inside and tries to roll the ball to Gomez but it's intercepted.
Chicago clear an Inter Miami corner kick and have the chance to break. Gutman brings it up-field but he's quickly swamped by Miami defenders and loses the ball.
That goal, so early in the second half, has really punctured the atmosphere at Soldier Field. The Fire had acquitted themselves well in the first half but it's a long way back now.
That's 15 goals for the season for Luis Suarez!

He's not on the scoresheet, but Luis Suarez had a hand in the opening goal at Soldier Field. The Uruguayan's shot was saved but Brady before being turned into his own net by the unfortunate Arnaud Souquet.

He looked a little shaky during his first outings in this position, but Sergio Busquets has looked good in the heart of defence this evening. His on-ball qualities are not in doubt but he's done very well defensively, too.

Neat touch from Gomez gets Inter Miami streaming forward on the right. Redondo tries to spread the play out to Jordi Alba on the left but his pass is overhit and the ball skips out of play.
A wasted opportunity there for the Herons.
Luis Suarez thinks he's in on goal but he's penalised for a late challenge on Gaston Gimenez. The Fire captain gets gingerly back to his feet to take the free kick on the halfway line.
Elsewhere in MLS, Cincinnati are currently 4-0 up against CF Montreal. Inter Miami will need to win this to retain their cushion at the top of the Eastern Conference.
Chicago play it short to Gutierrez but he can't make space for a shot. The ball drops to Suarez and he plays a nonchalant nutmeg on the edge of his own box. He wins a free kick.

Chicago Fire may be behind but they're continuing to cause Miami problems. Mueller is a constant threat down the right with his running, and Cuypers is a real handful in the middle.
This game is far from over.

Here it is, the goal that gives Inter Miami a narrow lead at Soldier Field. There wasn't much that poor Arnuad Souquet could do in this position, but it goes down as an own goal.
Brilliantly defended from Busquets to close down Gutierrez on the edge of the box and stop him shooting.
It's been an assured start from Busi in the heart of defence.
Marcelo Weigandt flies up the wing for Miami and stands up a cross to the back post. Jordi Alba connects on the volley but his effort bounces just wide of the post.

Inter Miami worked the ball to Suarez on the penalty spot and the Uruguayan forced a sharp save from Brady. The keeper parried the ball out but it struck Arnaud Souquet in the six-yard box and cannoned back into his own goal.
Desperately unlucky for the Fire, who have held their own in the opening stages.

The home crowd are making themselves heard at Soldier Field and it's translating onto the field. Chicago Fire are looking dangerous still.
Late challenge from Martinez on the halfway line, hauling down Souquet. The Miami man is lucky to avoid a booking.
Chicago looked to be losing their grip on this game but they've battled back admirably. They are posing a real threat on the counter-attack.
More good play from Muller to beat Alba on the right and stand up a cross to the back post. Cuypers can't quite connect and Miami clear.

There are times when this Inter Miami formation looks a bit stretched. In midfield both Gomez and Redondo like to burst forward, leaving Yannick Bright in an ocean of space in the middle.
If Chicago move swiftly, they can definitely take advantage of that disconnect.
Back to the action, Chicago Fire come forward with Gutman on the left but he's called for an offside.

Last time out Luis Suarez made history for Inter Miami, scoring the fastest goal in club history against reigning Supporters' Shield champions FC Cincinnati. Suarez is also closing in on another club record, the single-season goal scoring record.
Suarez has already scored 14 goals and needs just two more to equal Gonzalo Higuain's record.
