The Los Angeles Galaxy striker wants to be included in the final roster that will travel to the FIFA World Cup in November with the Mexico national team.

Javier Hernández started the season on the right foot by scoring five goals, but since the Los Angeles Galaxy defeated LAFC 2-1 on April 9, he has struggled to find the back of the net. Chicharito has not scored in the last eight games between the league and the US Open Cup.

Even though the 33-year-old is not in his best moment in the season, he will look to meet with Mexican coach Gerardo Martino to receive another opportunity to return to the national team, according to journalist Javier Medrano.

Mexico has struggled to find a striker that is able to be a constant threat in the box in the past year-and-a-half. El Tri’s head coach has been clear that Raúl Jiménez will be the starter throughout his tenure, but the Wolverhampton striker has been struggling to score with club and country.

Chicharito could be the solution for Mexico

Martino has called up different strikers that could be an option to back up Jiménez, but none of them have been able to earn a permanent spot in the roster. The coach continues his search, and Hernández could be the answer if given an opportunity.

The Los Angeles Galaxy striker has not received a call-up to the Mexico national team since Sept. 6, 2019 when Chicharito scored in the 3-0 win over the United States men’s national team. Martino wants a more consistent performance throughout an extended period of time in a striker.

I want to clarify the good moment. For me it’s not four games, or five, or two goals, or three. For me, the good moments are justified when we talk about an entire season,” said Martino last month during a press conference.

“In the good moments we have to see players who started well this year, let’s call it January, and who will finish well the following year, which will be at the end of October. That is to have a good soccer year, to have a good soccer moment,” he pointed out.
