Chicharito notches team-leading seventh goal prior to facing LAFC
The Mexican international scored his seventh goal of the season in the Los Angeles Galaxy 4-0 shutout win over CF Montréal.
Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernández ended his scoreless streak just in time for one of the most important games of the 2022 MLS season for the Los Angeles Galaxy. The Mexican international scored his seventh goal of the campaign in the Galaxy’s 4-0 shutout win over CF Montréal on Monday at Dignity Health Sports Park.
This was Chicharito’s first goal since the Los Angeles Galaxy 4-1 win over Austin FC on 30 May prior to the FIFA international break of June. The Mexican international found the confidence and motivation he needed to prepare for the most important game of the season against Los Angeles FC on 8 July at Banc of California stadium.
“We feel pretty confident, very happy. But yeah. I mean, [from] the experience last season, about that like hurtful experience, like we cannot celebrate nothing more than it is. You know, it’s just three points with a lot of confirmations, with a lot of attitude, like playing together, fighting, giving everything. And then of course being as focused as we can and as clever as we can inside the pitch to do what Greg [Vanney] tells us is going to be in a more positive way than negative. Then on Friday, it’s one of those games that we all want to play. And yeah, we want to win, of course,” said Hernández.
Galaxy target playoffs
With the win over CF Montréal the Los Angeles Galaxy moved up to fourth place in the Western Conference with 27 points, tied with FC Dallas, and their upcoming match will be on the road against LAFC. Chicharito is aware of the added pressure when playing El Tráfico but he was clear that the goal for the Galaxy is to secure a playoff spot.
“We want to qualify to playoffs, we want to be at least in top three of this conference and then yeah. And then the playoffs, you know it’s a different tournament. It’s a different vibe, it’s a different atmosphere but yeah, Galaxy needs to be there and we try to do our best. Of course, I think, every Galaxy member and every staff member, every player, every coaching staff, Greg [Vanney],” concluded Chicharito.
