Ciudad de México Update:

Javier “Chicharito” Hernández has found himself at the center of controversy after his social media posts that many viewed as disrespectful toward women — and the fallout has been swift.

What did Javier Hernández say about women?

Last week, in an online video that is still on his Instagram page, the veteran striker said: “Women, you are failing, you are eradicating masculinity, making society hypersensitive. Don’t be afraid to be women, to allow yourselves to be led by a man.”

Hernández followed it up with another video saying: “You want a man to provide, but for you, cleaning is patriarchal oppression ... interesting.

The former Manchester United and Real Madrid forward has since apologized for his comments.

“Chicharito” Hernández’s Chivas punishments

According to reports from 365Scores, the Guadalajara striker has been hit with eight internal sanctions by Chivas’ leadership council, following backlash over the now-viral clip. The disciplinary actions, which include a contract non-renewal and mandatory gender equity training, were reportedly enforced after several players from the Chivas Femenil team filed formal complaints with the club.

The internal council, led by Amaury Vergara, is said to have taken decisive action. Among the most notable consequences: Chicharito has been removed from the first team indefinitely, and his time with the club appears to be over.

Here are the 8 reported sanctions imposed on Chicharito:

  1. Suspension of performance-related bonuses
  2. Fines from Liga MX, the Mexican Football Federation (FMF), and Chivas
  3. Official notice of suspension from FMF activities
  4. Mandatory gender equity course from Liga MX Femenil
  5. Suspension from the first team until further notice
  6. Chivas will not renew his contract
  7. Puma has terminated its exclusive sponsorship deal with him
  8. He will no longer serve as a 2026 World Cup ambassador

Is “Chicharito” Hernández’s career over?

The punishment underscores the seriousness with which Chivas is treating the situation, especially in light of complaints from its women’s team. One of the key measures involves Hernández taking part in a gender equity course organized by Liga MX Femenil — Mexico’s top women’s league.

Chicharito, Mexico’s all-time leading goalscorer, has previously made headlines for his association with life coach Diego Dreyfus, who he credits with helping revive his career during a rough patch in Europe.

Now, the 37-year-old forward faces a new kind of challenge — one that could mark a definitive end to his time in Mexican soccer.
