‘Chicote’ Calderón makes rare Chivas to Club América switch
Calderón is one of the few players to move from the Guadalajara side to arch-enemy América on a free transfer as Salvador Reyes is set to leave the Coapa side.
The hottest speculation on the Liga MX rumour-mill is now official as free agent Cristian Calderón has departed Chivas after not renewing his contract and has hooked up with bitter rivals and current Liga MX champions Club América.
Chicote moves to the Coapa club on a reported three year deal and his signing sees the Águilas having to release a player to accommodate the new recruit as Salvador Reyes appears destined to move to Necaxa on loan.
With this move, Calderón joins a list of players who have worn the Chivas and América shirt, starting with Oribe Peralta, Javier Rodríguez, Jesús Molina, among others.
In the Apertura 23 season, Chicote Calderón played 13 games for Chivas and bagged three goals for the ‘Sacred Flock. The player was one of the three ostracised by former head coach Veljko Paunovic for acts of ill-discipline after an away trip to Toluca but did make a return in the Liguilla where he participated in two games providing one assist as they fell to Pumas at the quarter-final stage of the competition.
