Chivas’ 4-0 hammering to América among their heaviest defeats
Guadalajara have suffered some big defeats during the past 25 years, where does Saturday’s to América at the Azteca figure?
América served Chivas a 4-0 thrashing on Saturday and consummated one of the most humiliating scorelines in the history of the Clásico Nacional. Last night’s result will go down in history as the heaviest defeat to Las Águilas since since the short tournaments were established, equalling the painful home defeat to the eternal rival almost a decade ago.
Painful Súper Clásico defeats
Chivas crashed to a 0-4 defeat in Week 13 of the Clausura 2014, when the team was going through one of the worst crises in history - not that it mattered much to the capital side who were more than happy to put four past their greatest rival with Luis Gabriel Rey, Raúl Jiménez and Luis Ángel Mendoza getting on the scoresheet.
In September 2019, on matchday 12 of the Apertura 2019, the Azulcremas once again crushed the Rojiblancos and did so with a resounding 4-1. Sebastián Córdova, Henry Martín and Emanuel Aguilera found the net, while Alan Pulido pulled one back for Guadalajara.
Fast forward to the Clausura 2021, América completely dominated the meeting at the Akron and mercilessly put three goals past them - all goals coming during the second half. Henry Martín finished with a brace that night, and Sebastián Córdova scored the third late on.
It would be another two years before América beat Chivas again - it happened in the Clausura 2023. Uruguayan Jonathan Rodríguez put America two goals up and Leonardo Suárez added a third. Henry Martín added a fourth after the break and Chivas’ response through goals from Sergio Flores and an own goal by Emilio Lara came too late as it ended 2-4.
