Chivas boss praises Mexican-Peruvian striker Santiago Ormeño
Guadalajara defeated Santos Laguna 4-0 in the Copa Sky and the 28-year-old scored his first hat-trick since arriving in 2022.
Santiago Ormeño was born in Mexico, but he represents Peru at the international level. So when the 28-year-old striker joined Chivas in the summer of 2022, a team that only plays with Mexican-born players, many fans questioned his arrival to the most popular team in Liga MX.
Ormeño gaining the hearts of the fans
Chivas is participating in the Copa Sky with the main objective to get the squad ready for the start of the Clausura 2023 in January under newly appointed boss Veljko Paunovic. The Guadalajara-based team defeated Santos Laguna 4-0 on Monday night and Santiago Ormeño scored his first hat-trick with Chivas.
“I think he [Ormeño] is a good example of someone that works hard. He has been waiting for an opportunity and he was ready when I gave him one. Everyone who has been a footballer has passed through difficult situations, but we have to keep the fire burning and believe that you are the best. Especially when you play for a historic team like Chivas,” said Paunovic following the win on Monday.
“So he kept working hard, waited for his opportunity but now he has to keep going. He has to show that level game-after-game and help the team throughout the tournament,” concluded Paunovic. Chivas will continue their pre-season by playing against Tigres (December 22) and Atlas (December 27) before the start of the Clausura 2023 on January 7 against Monterrey.
