Chivas’ destiny is now in their own hands
Chivas have already secured its place in the final phase; it only remains to be seen whether they will have to play in the play-in round or advance directly.
After missing out last season, Chivas de Guadalajara is officially back in the hunt for the Liga MX title. With just two games left in the Apertura 2025 regular season, the club has already secured a spot in the postseason. The only question now: will they go straight to the quarterfinals, or will they have to battle through the Play-In?
As of now, El Rebaño Sagrado sits in sixth place with 23 points after 15 matchdays—holding the final direct ticket to the Liguilla. The good news? Their fate is entirely in their own hands.
What do Chivas need to lock in sixth place?
The clearest path is simple: win both remaining matches—against Pachuca and Monterrey. If they do, Chivas would finish with 29 points, putting them out of reach of their closest challengers.
But it won’t be easy. Hot on their heels are Pachuca with 22 points, Tijuana with 21 and FC Juárez with 20.
All three still have a mathematical shot at overtaking Chivas—but only if Guadalajara slips up.
The decisive match: Sunday vs. Pachuca
This Sunday’s showdown against Pachuca is shaping up to be a make-or-break moment. A win would not only knock out a direct rival but could also mathematically seal sixth place—if two other results go their way: i.e. if FC Juárez draw or lose at Atlético San Luis, and if Tijuana draws or loses at Pumas.
If those dominoes fall, Chivas could punch their quarterfinal ticket a week early.
If they don’t win Sunday…
Then it’s scoreboard-watching time. Chivas would need to monitor how their rivals perform heading into the final matchday, when they’ll face Monterrey. Meanwhile, FC Juárez will host Querétaro, Tijuana are at home to Atlas and Pachuca are away at Santos Laguna.
In short, Chivas controls its destiny—but the margin for error is razor-thin. One slip, and the Play-In could be back on the table.
