Chivas fans euphoric as ‘Chicharito’ returns to the Guadalajara club
Chivas have a new high profile striker as Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernández returns to the Guadalajara club for the 2024 Liga MX Clausura.
On Wednesday morning, Chivas officially announced the worst kept secret in Mexican football as they confirmed the return of Javier “Chicharito” Hernández to the team. The 35-year-old is a Guadalajara native and spent his formative years at the club before moving to Manchester United in 2010.
The striker is set to be officially unveiled as a new Estadio Akron player at a gala event next Saturday (27 January) but there is still no definitive date as to when the player will pull on the red and white stripes given that he is still recovering from a cruciate tear sustained last June while playing for former side LA Galaxy.
“Chicharito” will now work closely with the Guadalajara medics as he enters the final stage of his rehabilitation period and the player could be ready to play at a competitive level by the end of February or the beginning of March.
Javier Hernández joins Club Leon’s new acquisition in Andrés Guardado as two of the greats of Mexican football return to Liga MX after undergoing successful careers in Europe, with Chicharito also enjoying time in MLS.
