Update:

Chivas Guadalajara’s 18-year-old prospect Hugo Camberos has agreed to extend his contract with the Liga MX club, the player’s agent says.

What are the terms of Camberos’ Chivas extension?

Rather than a brand-new deal, the agreement will restructure Camberos’s current contract - which still has 18 months remaining - allowing for an immediate salary increase. An additional 18 months will be added, keeping the teenager tied to El Rebaño Sagrado through June 30, 2028.

“It’s all going well,” Matías Bunge said at Guadalajara International Airport. “We’ve been in talks with the front office, and everything is pretty much agreed upon. Now it’s just a matter of paperwork. He’s getting an extra year and a half added to his deal. Hugo, the club, and we as his representatives are all happy with the outcome.”

However, the door to Europe remains open. Should a strong offer come in - either in this transfer window or the next - all parties are aligned in supporting Camberos’ dream of playing abroad. At the same time, the young midfielder is committed to helping Chivas chase the league title that has eluded them since 2017.

“European option still on the table”

“Yes, absolutely - the European option is still on the table,” Bunge confirmed. “That was one of Hugo’s requests, and the club is open to it as well. We accompanied him to France for the Maurice Revello Tournament, but everything had already been discussed before that trip. The club’s intentions and ours were aligned, so everything is moving in the right direction.”

Bunge also addressed recent reports claiming Chivas had turned down a European offer for Camberos, calling them false.

“Everything is still open. There’s a chance he could leave, and just as much of a chance he could stay. We’ve already established the terms with the club, which is fully supportive of a move if the right opportunity comes along,” Bunge said.

No offers have been rejected. If anything concrete happens, it will be announced officially. But for now, there’s been nothing of the sort.”
