Chivas has sealed two signings - and is after more
After being knocked out of the Apertura 2025, Chivas Guadalajara is deep into roster planning for the Clausura 2026.

While Toluca and Tigres battle for the Liga MX title, Chivas Guadalajara is already looking ahead to the next tournament, having been knocked out by Cruz Azul in the Apertura 2025 quarterfinals. Amaury Vergara’s team has been busy behind the scenes and has reportedly locked in two signings, with one more reinforcement still on the radar.
Sporting directors Alejandro Manzo and Javier Mier have been working hard during the break as El Rebaño Sagrado prepares to return next Monday for preseason training. According to sources close to Chivas, two deals are already done - pending official announcements.
Who has Chivas signed so far?
One of those signings is Brian Gutiérrez, the highly regarded Chicago Fire midfielder. The 22-year-old, considered one of the top young talents in Major League Soccer, will join Chivas for the upcoming Clausura 2026. Several MLS clubs have shown interest in Gutiérrez in recent years, but Guadalajara appears to have won the race.
Although born in the United States and capped at youth level for U.S. national teams, Gutiérrez has Mexican parents. That satisfies the club’s long-standing tradition that players must be either Mexican or of Mexican heritage.
Sources indicate Chivas secured the deal for around $5 million, a significant reduction from Chicago Fire’s initial $8 million asking price - a clear win for the Guadalajara front office.

Sepúlveda set for second stint
The other incoming player is veteran striker Ángel Sepúlveda, who is expected to rejoin Chivas after completing his commitments with Cruz Azul in the upcoming FIFA Intercontinental Cup. Barring any surprises, Sepúlveda will link up with Guadalajara for preseason.
Sepúlveda’s first spell with Chivas was brief and underwhelming - just one semester - and he has openly admitted it was the toughest period of his career. Now, at 34, he’ll have a shot at redemption. However, breaking into the starting XI won’t be easy, given that Armando González is the reigning top scorer and firmly holds the No. 9 spot.

More moves coming?
Insiders say Chivas isn’t done yet. The board is still exploring options to strengthen the squad for head coach Gabriel Milito, aiming to improve on last season’s performance. A center-back remains a priority, and if that signing materializes, it could mark the end of their transfer activity.
