Chivas’ potent record against Monterrey at BBVA Stadium
Guadalajara has an impressive record as guests of Rayados since BBVA Stadium was inaugurated; Monterrey have won this fixture just once.
The Liga MX resumes activity after the recent international break, the action returns on Friday with Puebla hosting Tigres in the first of nine fixtures in Week 13 of the Clausura 2024. With just five matchdays left in the regular season, there is no longer any margin for error - just six points separate leaders Monterrey and Pachuca in fifth.
Chivas are one of the teams aiming to qualify directly for the Fiesta Grande which means this weekend’s clash against Monterrey is of utmost importance. They travel to Cerro de la Silla to face the Rayados at BBVA Stadium - a fixture which yielded positive results since the stadium’s inauguration.
First meeting in March 2016
In the eight league games played since the stadium opened in 2016, the Sacred Flock have a balance of four victories, three draws and one defeat. Monterrey inaugurated their stadium on 2 August 2015 - the first tournament in which Chivas played there was during the Clausura 2016. The two teams met for the first time at the new ground on 19 March 2016 with Chivas recording a resounding 1-3 win.
The only defeat that the red and whites team have suffered at Rayados’ home was in Week 4 of the Apertura 2017 - on 12 August 2017, the home team won comprehensively, beating their rivals 4-1 with goals from Celso Ortiz, Rogelio Funes Mori, Dorlan Pavón and Avilés Hurtado. Jair Pereira scored for the visitors.
Monterrey head into Saturday’s game as leaders with 28 points - with just a three-point advantage over second-placed América. A win this weekend will be vital to keep a healthy distance from their main pursuer. Meanwhile, Chivas are tenth in the general table with 16 points, and must win to avoid dropping out of the playoff places. Santos Laguna occupy the 12th and last playoff place on 14 points with Atletico San Luis just one point adrift in 13th.
