Christian Pulisic on target as Leeds United face relegation
Chelsea beat Leeds United 3-0 and the United States men’s national team ace netted his sixth goal of the Premier League season.
Christian Pulisic has experienced a lot of ups and downs in his third season at Chelsea and has been in and out of the starting XI, mainly because of injuries, under manager Thomas Tuchel. The United States international is trying to end the season on a high note and help the London side win silverware this campaign in Saturday’s FA Cup final.
Pulisic has his mind set in Liverpool
Chelsea were away at Leeds United on Wednesday night and Pulisic made his twelfth start of the Premier League season. The visitors brushed Leeds aside to put Jesse Marsch’s side on the verge of relegation with the US international on target in a 3-0 win at Elland Road.
The USMNT ace has scored six goals and provided two assists in 21 appearances in the Premier League this campaign. The win at Leeds also secured Chelsea a spot in next year’s UEFA Champions League with two games left in the season.
Kai Havertz has been Chelsea’s most prolific marksman this season but Pulisic has been more effective than the German international. The USMNT ace has a 0.53 goal average compared to Havertz’s 0.52. Pulisic is pushing for a start against Liverpool on Saturday, a rematch of the EFL Cup final that Jürgen Klopp’s side won on penalties.
Leeds on the verge of relegation
Defeat on Wednesday left Leeds on the verge of relegation with two games remaining. It was a third consecutive defeat for Marsch’s side and they sit in 18th place on 34 points and have played one more game than Burnley, who are level on points but with a better goal difference.
It will be all or nothing for Marsch in the last two games of the season if he is to keep his side up. Leeds host Brighton on 15 May and are away at Brentford in their final game.
