Christian Pulisic was ‘dumbfounded’ by Thomas Tuchel
The United States men’s national team ace revealed the bad relationship he had with the former Chelsea manager, especially during important matches.
Christian Pulisic was disappointed that Chelsea didn’t let him leave on loan during the summer transfer window and he had to fight for minutes when Thomas Tuchel was in charge. A few weeks later the German manager parted ways with the club and now the United States international revealed how tense his relationship was with Tuchel.
Pulisic opens up
On 18 October, Pulisic will release a book called “Christian Pulisic: My Journey So Far” and in it he talks about his career far away from home. In this book, the 23-year-old talks about his relationship with Tuchel and how uncomfortable he has been at Chelsea due to his lack of minutes with the World Cup set to begin in a few weeks.
Pulisic also talked about a specific incident prior to the semi-final against Real Madrid in the 2020/21 UEFA Champions League. Chelsea ended up winning 5-4 on aggregate to advance to the final of the tournament and the United States international was a key player in helping the team to eventually win the trophy, the second in the club’s history.
“What happened before that game was hugely disappointing for me. l’d had a really good first leg performance and our following match was against Fulham in the league,” Pulisic said in an excerpt of his upcoming book. “Tuchel told me that he was resting me for the second leg and as a result, I didn’t play a single minute in the Fulham game. Then on match day of the second semi, Tuchel tells me he’s changed his mind and he’s going with Kai [Havertz]. I honestly was dumbfounded and very disappointed.”
