Chucky Lozano, doubt for Napoli-Liverpool Champions League clash
The Mexican attacker trained away from the rest of the squad after the strong blow to the head he suffered at the weekend.
Hirving Lozano has both Napoli and the Mexican national team concerned. The striker was carried away on a stretcher during the weekend Serie A match against Lazio after a strong clash of heads with Adam Marusic. The image of how he left the field of play caused concern in the fans, however, hours after the game the Italian club reported that although Lozano had indeed suffered a head injury, he was out of danger.
Will Napoli striker Lozano play against Liverpool?
A couple of days later, and two ahead of the start of the Champions League group stage, the club provided some more information. This update puts in doubt his likeliness of featuring against Liverpool in Wednesday’s opener.
“Hirving Lozano had further x-rays in the morning at the Pineta Grande clinic followed by a consultation with Doctor Bucciero, a brain surgeon, with the results coming back negative. The Mexican worked individually,” read the relevant segment of the report of Monday’s training session.
In this way, the coach will have to wait to see if he can count on 'Chucky' Lozano for the midweek meeting or rest him so he can recover 100 percent.
Napoli’s group in the Champions League
The Serie A club was placed in Group A together with Ajax, Liverpool and Glasgow Rangers. Their debut will be against Jürgen Klopp’s side, then they will visit the Scottish team and for matchday 3 they will travel to Ajax where there could be a Mexican duel, as Jorge Sánchez and Edson Álvarez are in the Dutch team.
