Chucky Lozano hat-trick condemns Ajax to bottom of Eredivisie table
The most decorated club in Dutch football prop up the Eredivisie table after falling on Sunday at the hands of PSV Eindhoven.
Sunday’s Eredivisie fixtures threw up an intriguing PSV Eindhoven vs Ajax Amsterdam clash with the Rood-witten looking to maintain their grip at the top of the table where the Amsterdam side were desperate to get an all important morale boosting win with the 36 time Dutch champions desperate to kick start their faltering campaign.
Things started well for Ajax as the side from Amsterdam headed in to the half-time break with a 1-2 lead thanks to goals from Van der Boomen and Brian Brobbey with Mexican striker Hirving ‘Chucky’ Lozano netting the PSV goal.
Matters took a turn in the second half and twenty minutes into the second forty-five, PSV had wrestled back control of the game with the the former Pachuca striker bagging his second and third of the day. Luuk de Jong and Saibari added to Ajax’s misery as PSV racked up five goals on the day.
With fellow strugglers Utrecht recording a draw away at Fortuna Sittard, the draw sends Ajax to the foot of the Dutch top flight with just one win in the 2023-24 season so far. The only slight consolation for the Amsterdam giants is they games in hand they hold over struggling rivals but this has been a disastrous start for one of the traditional ‘big three’ in the Dutch game.
