PSV Eindhoven fell just short of advancing to the quarter-finals of the Champions League after being eliminated by Borussia Dortmund. The painful loss left Hirving Lozano with a bitter taste in the mouth, as he admitted he had hope of sealing a ticket to the next round of the UEFA tournament.

“The truth is (I’m) very sad, I was very excited to go through. I think we have a good team, I think we didn’t plan the first half of the match well, but well, that’s football and now we must focus on the league, be focused on the rest of the season and hopefully everything goes in the best way,” said Lozano in a post-match interview for TNT Sports.

The Mexican forward did not start the match for Bosz’s side. He came on as a substitute and immediately impacted the game, hitting the ball off the post.

‘I always try to contribute, to give something the team’

“Yes, the truth is, yes; we had a fresher team, a team that wanted to win and you always have to contribute, give that bit to win and I always try to contribute, to give something the team, but we couldn’t advance. I think we had a good campaign, but it was not to be.

“[I had] a really good shot, it’s a shame it hit the post, but that’s football. We’re going to keep working and improving a lot,” said Chucky Lozano.

Although they are coming off a defeat in the Champions League, in the Eredivisie PSV are close to winning the league title.

“Yes, the truth is that we are doing very well, thankfully we are on the right track, but now with this defeat we have to regroup, we are going to analyse the game and what the things we failed to do. [We want] to improve and do well in the league,” he said.

The Dutch side have a 10-point gap over Feyenoord, the team led by Santiago Giménez; this weekend they could move one step closer to the Dutch title.
